In attempting to describe the food style at The Mariners Ipswich, it is better to understand head chef, and owner, Julien Jourdain. Born in Calais, France, Julien moved to Suffolk in his teens to work on the boat he now owns. England, particularly Suffolk, made such an impression on Julien, he invited his now-wife, Karine, to join him to work at the restaurant. And she would later become his business partner at The Mariners.

With a passion for travel (and music), Julien has travelled extensively around South East Asia taking inspiration from the countries he visited and their cooking. The result is a unique and intriguing mix of international styles and flavours, set in the nautical splendour of a retired Belgium gunboat.
